How to play Klondike Solitaire
Klondike is the classic solitaire most people simply call "Solitaire." You start with seven tableau columns, a face-down stock, and four empty foundations. The goal is to move every card up to the foundations, one suit each, in order from Ace to King.
- Foundations build up by suit: Ace first, then 2, 3, and so on to the King. There is one foundation per suit.
- Tableau columns build down in alternating colors — a red six goes on a black seven, a black nine on a red ten. You can move a whole ordered run at once.
- Only a King (or a run headed by a King) may move to an empty column.
- Click the stock to deal cards to the waste pile. Play draw-3 (deal three at a time) or switch to draw-1 in Settings. When the stock is empty, click it again to recycle the waste.
- When you uncover a face-down tableau card, it flips face-up automatically and you score points.
- Double-click or double-tap a card to send it straight to its foundation. A single tap on a card that has nowhere else to go does the same.
Moving cards: drag or tap
On a computer you can drag a card or a run onto a legal spot. On a phone, tap a card to pick it up — the game highlights every legal destination — then tap where you want it. Tap the card again to put it back down. Both methods work everywhere, so play the way that feels natural.
Scoring
Solitaire Nest uses standard Klondike scoring so you can chase a personal best:
- +10 for every card moved to a foundation.
- +5 for moving a card from the waste to a tableau column.
- +5 each time you turn over a face-down tableau card.
- −15 for pulling a card back off a foundation onto the tableau.
Your time and move count are tracked too. A faster time with fewer moves is the real flex — the Share button copies a one-line result you can paste to friends.
Tips to win more games
- Turn face-down cards early. The sooner a column is exposed, the more options you have.
- Do not rush Aces and twos up — sometimes a low card is more useful on the tableau to keep a color available.
- Empty a column when you can, but hold it for a King you actually need rather than the first one you see.
- Draw through the stock before you get stuck; a card you need is often waiting in the waste.
- Use Undo freely to explore lines, and Hint when you are truly stuck.
